GLOSSARY OF TERMS

Shipping, Labor & Related Services

New England Grows provides these definitions to acquaint you with specific terms used for shipping and labor during the show.  If you have any questions concerning these terms, please call Show Management at New England Grows (508) 653-3009 or Freeman (781) 380-7550.

COMMON CARRIER: A commercially operated van line that is used to ship materials.  All common carriers are unloaded and loaded by the drayage contractor and usually carries consolidated shipments for more than one company.

DRAYAGE:  (a.k.a. Material Handling) This is the movement of freight from point of arrival (dock) to the exhibit location and the return transfer of freight to the dock for outbound shipping.  This is a roundtrip service and may include storage of your empty crates and/or cartons during the show.  Drayage charges are based on weight (calculated by 100 pound increments or hundred weight, abbreviated CWT). For rates, refer to material handling rate sheet in this section of the manual.

INSTALLATION & DISMANTLE LABOR:  This is the labor required for the set up or dismantle of a booth, suspension of signage, carpentry and decorations.  Installation and Dismantle labor is charged by the man-hour.

FLOOR MANAGERS: New England Grows representatives located on the show floor during move-in and move-out will be available to answer questions or help solve any problems that may arise.  Floor managers will be designated with New England Grows attire.

HAND CARRY: Items or products that one person can carry without a hand truck or dolly.  No hand trucks or dollies are permitted in the lobby of the Boston Convention & Exhibition Center.  Mechanical equipment usage (i.e. forklifts) is prohibited by anyone other than the official drayage contractor.

BILL OF LADING (B/L): a list of goods shipped, also a receipt of same.  Important: when all material is packed at the end of the show, a copy of your B/L, including name of carrier must be turned in at the Freeman Freight desk.  Note that the exhibitor must make his/her own arrangements with the carrier of their choice.

GENERAL CONTRACTOR:  (a.k.a. Decorator) A company that is selected by show management that has responsibility for performing various tasks necessary to set up, operate and dismantle the event.
